In-between Seasons Hat








I have made this hat 2 sizes - child's and woman's.
For a child it is 2-4T (fits more tightly for 4year old)
For a woman it is made to fit 20-23"head circumference. (Size is given in the brackets)









 
                                                                                            Materials:


2 balls of any sport weight yarn, 2 different colors. I have used Feelings by Lana Gatto.
3mm needles
3.5 mm needles
tapestry needle












Method:

Using 3.0 mm needles and a contrasting yarn, cast on 107(123) sts.


Row1: knit
Row2: purl
Row3: knit
Row4:purl
Row5: knit

Switch to 3.5 mm needles and to a main color yarn and knit in stockinette sts for 6 rows.
Switch to a contrast yarn and knit 1 row and purl one row.

You are now ready to start diamond lace pattern.

Abbreviations:
yo= yarn over needle
ssk= slip one, knit one, pass the slipped stitch over
k2tog=knit 2 stitches together
psso= slip one, k2tog, pass the slipped stitch over

Diamond lace pattern section:

Row1: k5,* yo, ssk, k6*. Repeat * till last 6 sts, yo, ssk, k4
Row2 and every alt row purl
Row3: k3, *k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k3*. Repeat * to the end
Row5: k2, *k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k1*. Repeat* to the end
Row7: k4, * yo, psso, yo, k5*. Repeat * to the end
Row9: as row1
Row 10: purl
Row11: knit
Switch to main color yarn and purl one row.

Continue knitting in stockinette stitch till the piece measures 4.5 (5.5 ) inches from the cast on ending with a purl row.
Next row, k2tog, knit to the last 2 sts, k2tog
Purl a row.


Crown shaping:

Row1: k1, *k2tog, k11 (13)*. Repeat to the end.
Row2: purl
Row3: k1, *k2tog, k10 (12)*. Repeat to the end.
Row4: purl
Row5: k1, *k2tog, k9 (11)*. Repeat to the end.

Continue in the following manner decreasing 8 stitches on every odd numbered row working 1 st less between decreases till you have 17 sts.
Next row, k1, k2togx8
9 sts remaining.
Break off yarn, leaving 25" tail.
Run yarn through remaining stitches, draw up and fasten off.
Join back seam and sew together.
