Pink Lacy Spring Dress


If you are anything like me and like to have all kinds of yarns stashed away for any ideas you might have, then you probably have more sock yarn laying around then you care to knit socks out of it. So in the efforts to clean up my yarn stash i decided to make some light spring baby garments out of most sock yarn i have. Luckily my inspiration is always near me, and i just love to make things for my daughter. Here are the patterns for two dresses.


Color A: Yarn: Zitron Life Style(1 balls, 155m per ball, color 1862). Gauge: 25sts/4 " on 3 mm needles.
Color B: Yarn: Sock It to Me 4 ply (from ellan.com) 3 balls (color: rose wine). Gauge: 30 sts/4 '' on 2.5 mm needles.

Materials:

3 mm 24" (60 cm) circular needles
2.5 mm 24" (60 cm) circular needles
2.5 mm 32'' (80 cm) circular needles
Stitch marker, tapestry needle.


















Method (version B)


Back

Using Color A, cast on 70 sts.
RS: Knit
WS: Purl
Continue in stockinette stitch till the piece measures 2.5'', ending with the wrong side.

Armhole shaping:

RS: Bind off 3 sts, knit to the end
WS: Bind off 3 sts, purl to the end
RS: Bind off 2 sts, knit to the end.
WS: Bind off 2 sts, purl to the end.
RS: Knit 2 together, knit to the last 2 stitches. Slip each stitch to the right needle in knit wise manner, pass back to the left needle, knit 2 together.
WS: Purl.
Repeat last 2 rows 3 more times (52 sts)
Knit in stockinette stitch till armhole measures 9 cm from the first bind off.
RS: Knit 16 sts, bind off 20, knit 16 sts. Join second ball of yarn between first 16 knitted stitches and 20 bound off ones.
WS: Purl
RS: Dec 1 st at each neck edge ( knit 2 tog on the left side, ssk on the right side) ssk: slip 2 stitches knot wise to the right needle, pass them back to the left one, knit 2 together.
WS: Purl.
Repeat last 2 rows 5 more times (each shoulder strap has 10 sts now)
RS: Knit
WS: Purl.
Repeat last 2 rows 3 more times.
Bind off.

Front:

Same as back till armhole measures 6 cm form the first armhole bind off.
RS: Knit 20, bind off 12, knit 20. Join second ball of yarn between first knitted 20 sts and 12 bound off ones.
WS: Purl.
RS: Dec 1 st at each neck edge ( knit 2 tog on the left side, ssk on the right side) ssk: slip 2 stitches knot wise to the right needle, pass them back to the left one, knit 2 together.
WS: Purl.
Repeat last 2 rows 9 more times (each shoulder strap has 10 sts now)
RS: Knit
WS: Purl.
Repeat last 2 rows 6 more times.
Bind off.

Putting the bodice together:

Sew together left shoulder straps.
Using Color B, and with right side facing pick up 138 stitches evenly across starting at the right shoulder strap at the back, back, left shoulder strap at the back, left shoulder strap at the front, front, right shoulder strap at the front. Knit 3 rows in 3x3 rib (ie knit 3, purl 3). Bind off.
Sew together right shoulder straps.
Using same yarn, and right side facing pick up 114 stitches evenly along armhole edge. Knit 3 rows in 3x3 rib.
Repeat with second armhole.
Sew sides.

Skirt:

With Color B, and right side facing pick up 140 stitches along the edge of the bodice with 24'' 2.5 mm circular needles. Place a stitch marker, join in a round.
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: *Knit 6, purl 1*, continue in * to the end of the marker.
Rnd 3: Knit.
Rnd 4: *Knit 6, purl 1*, continue in * to the end of the marker.
Rnd 5: Knit.
Increase Rnd (Rnd 6): *Knit 3, yarn over, knit 3, purl 1*, continue in * to the end of the marker.
Rnd 7: Knit
Rnd 8: *Knit 7, purl 1*, continue in * to the end of the marker.
Rnd 9: Knit.
Increase Rnd (Rnd 10) : *Make 1, Knit 7, make 1, purl 1*
Rnd 11: Knit
Rnd 12: Knit 9, purl 1
Rnd 13: Knit
Repeat rnds 12 and 13 four more times.
Increase Rnd (Rnd 22): *Knit 9, purl 1, make 1*, continue in * to the end of the round.
Rnd 23: Knit
Rnd 24: Knit 10, purl 1.
Rnd 25: Knit.
Repeat Rnds 24&25 four more times.
Increase Rnd (Rnd 34): *Make 1, knit 10, purl 1*, continue in * to the end of the round.
Rnd 35: Knit.
Rnd 36: Knit 11, purl 1.
Rnd 37: Knit.
Repeat Rnds 36&37 four more times.
Increase Rnd (Rnd 46): *Knit 11, purl 1, make 1*, continue in * to the end of the round.
Rnd 47: Knit
Rnd 48: Knit 12, purl 1
Rnd 49: Knit.
Repeat Rnds 48&49 four more times.
Increase Rnd (Rnd 58): Make 1, knit 12, purl 1*, continue in * to the end of the round.
Rnd 59: Knit.
Rnd 60: Knit 13, purl 1.
Rnd 61: Knit.
Repeat Rnd 60&61 four more times.
Increase Rnd (Rnd 70): Knit 13, purl 1, make 1*, continue in * to the end of the round.
Rnd 71: Knit.
Rnd 72: Knit 14, purl 1.
Rnd 73: Knit
Repeat Rnd 72&73 four more times.
Increase Rnd (Rnd 82): Make 1, knit 14, purl 1*, continue in * to the end of the round.
Rnd 83: Knit.
Rnd 84: Knit 1, *Knit 4 together through the front loops, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, knit 4 through the back loops, knit 2*; repeat * to the end of the round.
Rnd 85: Knit.
Rnd 86: Knit.
Rnd 87: Knit.
Repeat Rnds 84 to 87 four more times.
Knit next 10 rounds in seed stitch.
Bind off in seed stitch.

I-cord:

With Color A, cast on 3 stitches.
Knit, do not turn over. *Pass the knitted stitches back to the left needle, knit.*
Repeat * till the I-cord measures the length you desire.

Thread the I-cord through the yarns over in the dress's skirt..

  1. WOW! You are one serious knitter! You do a GREAT job putting colors together. I only started knitting a couple years ago and so far have only knitted dishcloths,scarves, and hats. I was searching for sweater or dress patterns to try to knit for my little girl when I found your site. I can't imagine ever being able to knit like this but you've definately inspired me.

  3. Preparing an instruction like this is never easy. Plus adding the exact measurements is really hazardous on my part. Congratulations for this very informative post. Maybe I'll tell my wife to create one like this for our daughter.
